Sri Lanka has been a colony of three different European countries – Portugal, the Netherlands and Great Britain. All three left a mark in their own right, but Great Britain’s influence is the most noticeable, having been the last colonizer before the island’s independence. From language to food and sports, the Sri Lankan people are still living and practicing the British-style customs of their grandparents to some extent. When Sri Lanka was a British colony, between 1815 and 1948, it was called Ceylon, hence the name, Ceylon tea – Taylor made!. It was in 1824 that the first tea plant was brought from China by the British and planted in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, Kandy. It is considered to be the first non-commercial tea crop to be grown in the country. Close to two decades later, in 1867 James Taylor, a Scotsman was given the task of growing tea on just 19 acres of land in Loolecondera Estate in Kandy. This is considered the first commercial crop of tea to be grown.

They prepared for us a tailor made tour, which was perfectly done, according to our specific needs. Sightseeing, accomodation and transportation, everything very well laid out, planned and executed. Our driver was really nice and even took very good care of our children when we wanted to visit monuments and they were tired. They loved him. No complaints whatsoever, on the contrary, extremely satisfied. We have travelled all around the world and it is always very relevant how your tour is planned and executed to enhance your experience during your trip. This is one of those which make it more satisfactory!Antonio Lopez Arce - 10 September 2014 - https://www.facebook.com/antuanlopez

Simply OUTSTANDING in every sense of the TAILOR MADE TRIP and WORD! Amazing, our most thankful for an wonderful and the PERFECT trip. We´ve travelled all around the world and also since have kids always with them 3 & 4 years old and it has been at times very difficult and tiring. Unique Tours is the closest to Perfection (I´d say perfection defines them) that we have ever come across. Not to mention, TILAK, our driver, tour guide and child minder for that matter; he was just incredible. Tilak was our driver to begin with and we found on him the best guide to introduce us to Sri Lanka, he was just so proffessional and so NICE and really, was the best way to know Sri Lanka and its culture, in a nice discrete and very outstanding professional flexible way! Just LOVED IT, THANKS!!!
We made a 2-week tour with Unique Tours in July 2018. With no doubt, we highly recommend this company to anyone. The communication prior to our trip was fast, clear and efficient. They adapted to our requests and answered very fast to all our emails. Collection at airport, car and organization of the tour was exactly as agreed in terms of hotels, room category, itinerary and services provided. Service provided by our private driver Dinesh exceeded by far our expectations; he was at any time extremely attentive, patient, ready to help, informative and knowledgably about country and history. Daily clean vehicle and completely safe driving. We felt at all times safe and very well taken care of. We would by sure use Unique Tours Sri Lanka again in the future again.Vicente Alvarez - https://www.facebook.com/vicente.alvarez.94009?hc_ref=ARR5Rd_LKOp99RGdoZIYFoFGMdpSaUFV21bhCcvmrd8s_exvb52M6MrT8y4XZMO7loA

For the first time ever, my wife and I organised a 10 day tour - from Kandy to Colombo via the cultural heart, Jaffna and Trincomalee - in April 2018. Our driver Kosala was a very safe driver, knowledgeable and could not have been more helpful. The air-conditioned van was clean, roomy and comfortable. Ashley organised the tour, transport and accommodation, and did more than we originally bargained for at a very reasonable cost. Our every request was actioned promptly, he met us at the start (a 4+ hour trip each way), and he and director Muaazi entertained us at our hotel on completion. I highly recommend Unique Tours as a knowledgeable local tour company which acts with utmost integrity, focuses on customer service as their primary aim, and is conscious of providing value for money and an enjoyable travel experience around this wonderful and accessible country. We will always remember this trip which was worry-free. :-)Mr & Mrs John Lesser, Australia
