This commercial hub will be the starting point of your tour and hence this day has been left for you to relax and recoup after your long flight.
If time permits and you are up for it, it could be arranged for you to do some sightseeing around Colombo and even check the night life of the cosmopolitan city.
After an early breakfast, you will begin travelling towards the Cultural Triangle of the country. Enroute visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. This elephant orphanage which stretches over a 24 acre estate is also breeding place for elephants. Between 1975 and 2012, sixty-seven animals were born here and if you are lucky you might even be able to bathe and feed these beautiful giants.
After Pinnawala proceed to Dambulla. Here you will climb to the famous Dambulla rock temple. The five temples built alongside this rock is a great testimony to the strong Buddhist culture which was present in the ancient years of Sri Lanka.
In the morning after an early breakfast, we will proceed to Sigiriya.
Sigiriya a famous landmark of Sri Lanka, was once the fortress of King Kashyapa in the year 470 – 490 CE. This rock citadel which was his safe haven from the rest of his father’s empire stands today a marvel to all, because of the astounding architecture of the rock. The climb will take approximately 3-4 hours and is a definite must see for any tourist visiting Sri Lanka.
Afterwards in the afternoon we will proceed to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. This city which has been declared a UNESCO world Heritage site remains one of the best planned archaeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom’s first rulers.
After a complete tour of the ancient city proceed back to Habarana and if time permits you could go on an Elephant back ride close to the hotel.
After breakfast proceed to Kandy, the Hill Capital of the island. Enroute to Kandy you will make a quick pit stop at the Matale Spice & Herbal Gardens. Continue journey to Kandy with sightseeing along the way. Once you check in at your hotel visit the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the tooth relic). This is one of the most prominent temples in the country. It is home to the Buddha’s Tooth and annual ceremonies’ such as the Esala Perahera and the Dalada Perahera which is celebrated in July or August every year.

After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya passing through acres of lush green tea plantations through winding roads and mountainous hill slopes. Enroute take a brief stop at the majestic Ramboda waterfall which is 109 metres high and the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.
Nuwara Eliya once referred to as “little England” resembles much of our colonial rulers in the cool climate of the city, the lush greenery of the highlands and the cottage lifestyle of the people. In Nuwara Eliya you may visit the Hakgala Botanical gardens, which is home to over 10,000 different species of flora, and one of the many Tea factory’s built by the British which still functions to this date. Most importantly be sure to stop by the strawberry farms and indulge in some of the freshest strawberries in the Asian region. If time permits you could also visit the Ambewela dairy farm.
After an early breakfast travel towards the south coast of the Island to Yala. Enroute stop at the Rama Sita Hindu Temple in Nuwara Eliya and another stop at the majestic Ravana Ella waterfall which is the widest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The falls have been named after the legendary king Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave.
Yala National Park one of Sri Lanka’s premier eco tourist destinations is renowned for its variety of wildlife notably its many elephants. It is also home to the spotted deer, sambar, wild buffalo, sloth bear, jackal, mongoose and crocodiles. The peacock is easily the most famous of the birds in this park. Yala has a high concentration of leopards although seeing these nocturnal carnivores still requires some luck
In the morning you could enter the park for an early jeep safari. This is recommended as the best time to enter the park as the chances of spotting bear and leopard are high.
Later in the day at your leisure proceed to the Southern Coast of Galle. This city once the capital of our Dutch rulers shows the interaction between European architecture and South Asian traditions. The Old Dutch Fort was initially built by the Portuguese and then extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th Century. The Galle fort declared a UNESCO world heritage site is the largest remaining fortress built by the Europeans remaining in Asia.
Your accommodation for this leg of the tour will be in the busy bustling town of Hikkaduwa.
This day is at your leisure to travel around the city of Hikkaduwa or to neighbouring towns such as Unawatuna and Galle. These towns are famous for its beaches and surfing and are filled with foreign visitors which are great places to relax and enjoy some of the gorgeous beaches of Sri Lanka.
